About the Role:

The Director of Bids and Estimating plays a critical leadership role in driving the success of the organization's project acquisition efforts by overseeing the entire bidding and estimating process. This position is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates that align with company goals and client expectations. The role requires strategic collaboration with cross-functional teams including sales, project management, and operations to ensure bids are comprehensive and profitable. The Director will lead and mentor a team of estimators, fostering continuous improvement and innovation in estimating methodologies. Ultimately, this role ensures that the company secures high-quality projects while maintaining financial integrity and competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction estimating or a related discipline, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing complex bids and delivering accurate cost estimates in a timely manner.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, labor costs, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a management or senior management role within the construction or engineering industry.
  • Familiarity with project management software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the bids and estimating department, ensuring all estimates are accurate, competitive, and delivered on schedule.
  • Develop and implement standardized estimating processes, tools, and best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, engineering, project management, and procurement teams to gather necessary information and validate assumptions.
  • Analyze bid results and project outcomes to refine estimating techniques and improve future bid success rates.
  • Prepare and present detailed bid proposals and cost analyses to senior leadership and clients as needed.
  • Monitor market trends, material costs, and labor rates to maintain up-to-date and competitive estimates.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor estimating staff to build a high-performing team aligned with company objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements throughout the bidding process.
