Job Summary
The Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) provides rapid assessment, stabilization, and comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, traumatic injuries, and life-threatening emergencies. The RN is responsible for triaging patients, initiating emergency interventions, administering medications, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering safe, evidence-based care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rapid patient assessments and prioritize care using established triage protocols.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for emergency patients of varying acuity.
- Monitor patient condition, vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and response to treatment.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and emergency therapies as prescribed.
- Initiate life-saving interventions, including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), trauma care, and emergency stabilization.
- Care for patients with medical, surgical, cardiac, neurological, respiratory, orthopedic, pediatric, psychiatric, and traumatic emergencies.
- Assist with emergency procedures such as intubation, conscious sedation, wound management, fracture stabilization, and code blue responses.
- Operate and monitor emergency equipment, including cardiac monitors, defibrillators, ventilators, infusion pumps, and point-of-care testing devices.
- Collaborate with emergency physicians, trauma teams, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, radiology, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, follow-up care, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record (EMR) documentation.
- Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital policies and procedures.
