Position: Safety Specialist
Location: Williamsburg, VA
Major Role and Purpose:
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Associate will execute the site safety goals and support company safety initiatives through interfacing with Operations and Environmental departments within the company. This position will participate in reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing work environments and assist with designing programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent occupational injuries caused by chemical or physical agents or ergonomic factors. Position will be responsible for conducting inspections and audits to evaluate adherence to laws and regulations governing the safety and health of individuals. This position requires driving to remote sites and will require evening and weekend work.
Description of Duties:
This includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct inspections of project sites and facilities to ensure compliance with safety standards and policies.
- Ensure project sites and facilities are supplied with adequate
- Identify and advise project and plant staff of safety hazards and means to mitigate.
- Research, develop, and implement best practices in safe operating procedures and policies.
- Focus on continuous improvement to achieve improved safety performance.
- Provide safety training.
- Maintain safety records.
- Participate in accident & incident reviews to determine root cause(s) and appropriate corrective actions.
- Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
Education
- High School Diploma.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety & health or related field, or comparable combination of education and experience desirable.
Work Experience/Qualifications:
- 1 - 3 Years of construction safety administration experience.
- OSHA 500 and OSHA 501 preferred.
- CHST Certification.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Safe driving record.
- Must be detail oriented to provide accurate information on demand.
- Must possess a high level of organization, time management, and the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Willingness to work flexible schedule.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from management in group settings.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships and to promote the zero-injury safety culture.
- Must be able to pass a background check to obtain and maintain the necessary credentials for access to military bases.
- Strong work ethic and high degree of professionalism.

- Job requires the following motions: pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and lifting.
