Resource Conservation Technician - (benefits after 6 mos probationary period)
DUTIES:
- Assist with LLC (headquarter facility) and raceways which includes cleaning and maintaining signs, working on native fish stream and monitoring native fish and raceway equipment, (pumps, filters, liner, shade frame).
- Assist with all aquatic field work, including but not limited to monitoring and protocol surveys, water quality and flow testing, fish counts, annual surveys, monthly monitoring and larval fish counts.
- Assist with native plant nursery which includes potting, watering, seed storage and working with the native plant nursery manager.
- Assist with weekend events at the LLC and Sycamore Creek Center as needed.
- Attend annual and quarterly native fish meetings and programs as needed.
- Assist with the annual SAR survey and other quarterly and bi-annual native fish surveys with USGS, DFW and other regulatory agencies.
- Assist with emergency projects that involve river shutdowns, floods, drought and other on-call projects not included in this description.
- Coordinate the soil testing lab by conducting soil tests for agriculture and horticultural sites as they are received. Additional training on this task will be provided by management.
- Assist in maintenance and monitoring of the greenbelt aquatic facility which includes raceway cleaning, monitoring and native fish care.
- Assist with data entry of survey results and other project information.
- Assist with Invasive Species and habitat restoration programs.
- Assist with planting and maintenance of the native, urban and agricultural areas
- Assist with the conservation education programs as needed.
- Assist with building, repairing and maintaining various aquatic structures at the RCRCD and Greenbelt
- Perform other related duties as requested by the District Manager and Natural Resource Manager.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of soil, water and wildlife resoruces.
2. 2 years of experience in similar work, or degree in Environmental studies or similar field, or both.
3. Basic knowledge in metal and wood shop skills and able to use various hand tools and battery powered equipment.
4. Basic knowledge in computer programs.
5. Must possess valid California Driver’s License with good driving record.
6. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
7. Must be able to walk/hike on uneven terrain for long periods and work outside in heat, cold, wet and flooded terrain such as streams, creeks and backcountry trails.
8. Must be able to wear waders and other aquatic gear in order to perform field duties
9. Must be able to work nights and weekends when needed.
