Job DescriptionThis is an advanced level position involving technician work in a highway materials testing facility. This position will be working in the Asphalt Binder Laboratory
Role and Responsibilities
General activities include the following: logging and preparing asphalt samples for testing; performing laboratory testing in accordance with the applicable Florida Sampling and Testing Methods (FSTM), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), or American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) test methods. Report results precisely in the appropriate databases. Keep all testing equipment calibrated and in good working order.
Specific job duties include:
1. Logging and preparing asphalt mixture samples for testing
2. Handling hazardous materials with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), provided by the Department
3. Performing extraction and recovery of asphalt binder materials from solutions
4. Performing Dynamic Shear Rheometer testing of asphalt materials
5. Performing other tests on asphalt materials as needed per specifications
6. Entering test information into the appropriate database(s)
7. Maintaining and calibrating testing equipment
8. Performing other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Ability to follow detailed testing procedures
Ability to maintain accurate data records
Ability to manage multiple work assignments simultaneously
Ability to operate a personal computer and use Microsoft Excel
Ability to communicate engineering information effectively
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment
Ability to use engineering tools, instruments, and equipment
High school diploma or equivalent
