The Performance Media Director is responsible for overseeing the strategic execution and optimization of performance-driven digital media campaigns across a portfolio of client accounts. This client-facing leadership role combines strategic account management with deep performance media expertise, ensuring all paid media efforts deliver measurable results that align with client business objectives. The Performance Media Director serves as the primary point of contact for key clients while leveraging data-driven insights to maximize campaign performance across social, programmatic, and search channels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
Client Portfolio Leadership
- Serve as the strategic lead and primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of client accounts, building and maintaining strong relationships built on trust, transparency, and results.
- Develop comprehensive performance media plans that align with client business goals, identifying growth opportunities and presenting data-backed recommendations.
- Translate complex performance data and media insights into clear, actionable recommendations for clients, ensuring they understand campaign performance and optimization opportunities.
- Anticipate client needs and proactively recommend strategic adjustments based on performance trends, competitive landscape, and industry developments.
- Lead client presentations, quarterly business reviews, and strategic planning sessions with confidence and expertise.
Performance Media Strategy & Execution
- Oversee end-to-end performance media planning, activation, and optimization across paid social, programmatic, and paid search channels.
- Establish performance benchmarks and KPI frameworks that align with client objectives, including both upper-funnel brand metrics and lower-funnel conversion goals.
- Monitor campaign performance daily, identifying optimization opportunities and directing tactical adjustments to improve efficiency and outcomes.
- Collaborate with internal channel specialists and activation teams to ensure flawless campaign execution and performance delivery.
- Conduct ongoing performance analysis to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for testing and improvement.
Digital Investment & Budget Management
- Manage digital media budgets across client portfolio, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to maximize ROI and achieve client objectives.
- Oversee budget pacing, forecasting, and reconciliation processes, maintaining accuracy and transparency in all financial reporting.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency gains without sacrificing performance outcomes.
- Work with finance and operations teams to ensure timely invoicing, billing accuracy, and budget reconciliation.
Cross-Channel Performance Expertise
- Maintain expert-level knowledge of performance media channels including paid social (Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.), programmatic display/video, and paid search (Google, Bing, etc.).
- Understand the broader digital ecosystem and how complementary channels impact performance, including SEO, CRM/email marketing, data/audience strategies, marketing automation, and website optimization.
- Stay current on platform updates, algorithm changes, beta features, and emerging capabilities that could benefit client performance.
- Evaluate new media technologies, vendors, and platforms for potential integration into client strategies.
Analytics & Performance Measurement
- Partner with analytics and data teams to ensure proper tracking implementation, attribution modeling, and measurement frameworks are in place.
- Leverage analytics platforms and reporting tools to extract actionable insights from campaign data.
- Develop custom dashboards and reporting solutions that provide clear visibility into performance against client KPIs.
- Identify data gaps or measurement challenges and work cross-functionally to implement solutions.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with media strategists, channel specialists, and activation teams to ensure seamless campaign execution and performance delivery.
- Provide strategic direction and performance guidance to cross-functional team members supporting your client accounts.
- Mentor junior team members, sharing performance media best practices and fostering a culture of continuous learning and optimization.
- Serve as an escalation point for client concerns or operational challenges, working collaboratively to resolve issues quickly.

- 8+ years of progressive experience in performance media planning and execution, preferably in an agency environment
- Proven track record managing significant digital media budgets ($5M+ annually) with demonstrated performance results
- Direct client management experience with a portfolio of accounts, including presenting to senior-level stakeholders
- Experience with franchise-based or complex multi-location client structures preferred
- Expert knowledge of performance media platforms including Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, DV360, and other programmatic platforms
- Strong proficiency with analytics and reporting tools including Google Analytics, Looker Studio, Tableau, or similar platforms
- Deep understanding of performance metrics, attribution models, and measurement methodologies across the digital marketing funnel
- Working knowledge of how adjacent channels (SEO, CRM, data/audiences, website optimization) impact paid media performance
- Familiarity with marketing technology stack including DMPs, CDPs, tag management systems, and marketing automation platforms
- Advanced Excel/Sheets skills and comfort working with large datasets
- Some client travel required (approximately 10-20% depending on client needs)
Education
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, communications, or a related field.
