About The Role
The ideal Lead Underwriter (Wholesale) for our US Managing General Agency (MGA) will have a 5 + years of experience in middle market and/or larger account underwriting with wholesale distribution channels. This position is available to work remotely or hybrid near our regional employee hub (Minneapolis, MN), unless approved otherwise. Players Health is a remote-first distributed workforce. Travel may be required for team collaboration, training, and development You will be with responsible for developing and managing a profitable wholesale book of business.
As an experienced collaborator and a natural customer-focused individual, preferably with experience in wholesale and sports/fitness insurance, you will join an organization going through significant growth as well as digital transformation. You will help instill a mindset of ownership and accountability within the team, providing a playbook for best practices and defining expectations to meet the vision and strategy for profitable growth.
You will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of the wholesale business plan, including new business, renewal retention, pricing, and profitability. This role will also be directly responsible for broker relationship management within the wholesale channel and will oversee and mentor a Junior Underwriter. The Lead Underwriter (Wholesale) role has a compensation range of $100,000 - $140,000, depending on skills and experience.

Responsibilities (are inclusive of but not limited to):
- Meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals determined by the company.
- Make independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintain proper file documentation.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers to drive new business and renewals, ensuring alignment with Players Healths underwriting strategy.
- Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned wholesale agents/producers. Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the wholesale division.
- Mentor and manage a Junior Underwriter, ensuring quality work product, professional development, and alignment with team goals.
- Have in-depth knowledge of sports & fitness segment products and services, with emphasis on wholesale distribution.
- Clearly articulate the Players Health value proposition to wholesale partners.
- Participate in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base. May participate in projects.

Minimum Skills & Qualifications:
- 5 + years of experience in middle market and/or larger account underwriting with wholesale distribution channels
- Proven ability to manage broker relationships and drive profitable growth.
- Experience making independent underwriting decisions within authority limits and maintaining thorough documentation.
- Proven success in developing and managing broker relationships to drive new business and renewals.
- Prior experience mentoring, managing, and leading junior team members.
- Strong emotional intelligence skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Desired Characteristics:
- Although not required, a Bachelor's degree in, Risk Management, Insurance , Business Administration, or related field is desired.
- Experience in wholesale and sports/fitness insurance
- Self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
- Demonstrated experience and/or ability to influence without authority
- Demonstrated ability to build connections and rapport cross-departmentally
- Participant/involvement in or strong understanding of the youth/amateur sports landscape.

- Ability to travel occasionally for team events, collaboration, engagement, conferences, or customer visits
