Job DescriptionPosition Overview

The Pipe Welder plays a critical role in the fabrication team, performing precision welding and fitting that ensures piping systems and pressure vessels meet strict safety and quality standards. This position requires the ability to interpret blueprints, execute quality welds, and deliver consistent results in a fast-paced shop environment.

This role offers the chance to work with advanced tools and processes, gain expertise in ASME code welding, and contribute directly to the durability and reliability of complex mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret P&IDs, weld symbols, and technical drawings to set up and complete weldments.

  • Perform high-quality welds on piping and ASME pressure vessels, including X-ray quality standards.

  • Operate welding machines, rotators, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment.

  • Fit and assemble joints accurately, applying shop techniques for rotator welding.

  • Work in accordance with ASME codes such as B31.1, B31.3, and B31.9.

  • Conduct preventative maintenance on welding machines and evaluate equipment performance.

  • Identify and report defects or issues in welds and materials.

  • Provide guidance and support to junior welders and laborers when needed.

  • Track production progress, assist supervisors with order status, and maintain accurate records.

  • Keep the work area clean, safe, and organized at all times.

  • Carry out additional duties as directed by shop leadership.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of general trade experience, with at least 3 years dedicated to welding.

  • Successful completion of a 6G FCAW weld test required; additional proficiency in SMAW, GTAW, and pulse processes preferred.

  • Skilled in MIG, ARC, and TIG welding with knowledge of metallurgy and mechanical techniques.

  • Hands-on experience welding with rotators and performing proper fit-up.

  • Familiarity with pipefitting tools such as two-hole pins, pipe wraps, and center finders.

  • Strong blueprint reading and layout abilities.

  • Effective communicator with good judgment and initiative.

  • Must provide own set of hand tools within 60 days and achieve production goals within 90 days.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to work indoors, outdoors, and in dusty, noisy, or confined environments.

  • Capable of climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, and working in all weather conditions.

  • Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs. as required.

  • Knowledge of trade materials and tools essential.

  • Commitment to following all company safety practices, policies, and procedures.

  • Required safety training includes OSHA 10, CPR, and related health/safety certifications.
