Mid-Level Electrical Engineer
Location: Cedar Rapids, IA
Salary: $80,000–$95,000 (commensurate with experience)
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Position Summary
We’re seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and support automation and control systems for advanced manufacturing equipment. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on technical ability with a desire to learn, collaborate, and contribute to process improvement in a fast-paced engineering environment.
This is a great opportunity for an engineer with several years of experience who’s ready to take on more ownership of project design, programming, and implementation — while working alongside a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and debug automation and process control systems for industrial equipment.
- Support the creation of master plans, automation strategies, and system configurations.
- Develop and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic systems.
- Program and debug PLC and HMI systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, B&R, etc.).
- Design interface circuitry and determine power and load requirements.
- Implement and maintain design standards, change control, and documentation.
- Assist with system testing, quality verification, and performance validation.
- Collaborate with mechanical, software, and controls engineers to integrate solutions.
- Identify and resolve equipment performance issues through root-cause analysis.
- Recommend vendors, components, and automation technologies for new designs.
- Contribute to design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and technical problem-solving.
- Support equipment and material test studies and ensure safe, compliant designs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required.
- 3–5+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls, or manufacturing systems.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming, HMI development, and control integration.
- Knowledge of electromechanical systems and automation hardware.
- Understanding of UL, CSA, CE, and applicable electrical codes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Inventor, or SolidWorks.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Experience working in or with machine shop environments (welding, milling, turning, sheet metal) preferred.
