Position Overview
Concorde Education is seeking an engaging, student-centered SAT/ACT Tutor to provide targeted test preparation support for high school students. This role focuses on building the skills, strategies, and confidence students need to improve performance on the SAT and/or ACT (assignment dependent). Tutoring emphasizes content reinforcement, efficient problem-solving, and test-taking strategies, with regular practice and review routines aligned to student needs and site goals.

Instruction should be structured, data-informed (using practice performance to target skills), and supportive. The tutor will provide instruction across a typical 10-week cycle, with pacing adapted to student readiness and site logistics.

What You Will Teach
Students will receive instruction and guided practice in SAT/ACT-aligned reading, writing/language, and math skills, as well as test strategies such as pacing, question prioritization, process of elimination, and error analysis. Tutoring may include mini-lessons, timed practice sets, review of misconceptions, and strategies for different question types.

  • Diagnostic review and goal-setting (baseline skills, improvement plan)
  • SAT/ACT test structure and timing strategies
  • Reading/English
  • Main idea, inference, and evidence-based reasoning
  • Passage mapping and annotation strategies
  • Rhetorical skills and author purpose (as applicable)
  • Grammar and usage (sentence structure, punctuation, verb tense, agreement)
  • Revision/editing skills (organization, transitions, clarity)
  • Math
  • Algebra and functions (equations, inequalities, graphs)
  • Problem-solving and data analysis (ratios, percentages, statistics basics)
  • Geometry and trigonometry fundamentals (as applicable)
  • Word problem translation, modeling, and strategy selection
  • Test-taking strategy
  • Pacing, skipping/returning, educated guessing
  • Process of elimination and trap answer recognition
  • Calculator vs. no-calculator efficiency (as relevant)
  • Error analysis routines and skill tracking

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide small-group or 1:1 SAT/ACT tutoring aligned to student needs and site expectations
  • Deliver structured sessions with clear objectives, guided practice, and strategic review
  • Use practice data and student work to identify gaps and target instruction
  • Facilitate timed practice sets and teach pacing and strategy routines
  • Track student progress through skill checklists and ongoing error analysis
  • Maintain a supportive, inclusive learning environment that builds confidence and persistence
  • Communicate professionally with site staff and Concorde program contacts regarding attendance and session completion tracking
  • Adapt instruction based on performance trends while maintaining intended outcomes

Qualifications (Required)

  • Minimum of 60 college credits (or Associate degree in progress/completed)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SAT and/or ACT content, question types, and test strategies
  • Experience tutoring high school students in math and/or ELA (test prep experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong facilitation skills, clear communication, and comfort explaining concepts multiple ways
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional; able to follow school policies and program boundaries
  • Ability to create structured practice routines and support students with motivation and accountability
