POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a Resin Handler to join our dynamic team at Petmate. The Resin Handler is responsible for managing and handling raw resin materials used in the production of plastic products. This role involves ensuring the proper storage, transportation, and preparation of resin materials to support efficient manufacturing processes. The Resin Handler will work closely with production teams to maintain material inventory and ensure the quality and consistency of resin used in production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities:

Safety:

  • Maintain cleanliness in work cells by sweeping, picking up, and removing scrap material and debris.
  • Ensure safe working conditions around granulators and regrind bins.
  • Consistently wear proper standard PPE.

Material / Resin Flow:

  • During mold or color changes, ensure proper purging and cleaning of resin from equipment to prevent contamination.
  • Prepare and supply the correct resin and colorant for job changes.
  • Verify throughout the shift that the colorant in the blender is adequately filled to avoid material flow alarm errors.
  • Ensure regrind is consistently pulling into the blender throughout the shift.
  • Review and clean cyclone filters as required to maintain proper vacuum and prevent equipment damage.
  • Maintain and clean vacuum pump cyclone dust collectors.
  • Review and clean receiver filters for virgin, regrind, and machine side (if required).
  • Manage all gaylords in your zone, ensuring proper separation of purge and contaminated material, and overflow regrind.
  • Support the removal of purge and contaminated material in the designated area.
  • Verify that all regrind bins are correctly labeled and have proper covers to prevent contamination.
  • Validate calibration of mix ratios to documented standards and recalibrate the mixer to zero as required.
  • Maintain loader rooms and clean loader filters.

Process:

  • Follow standard routes and document processes to ensure correct delivery schedules and proper order of equipment.
  • Use freight elevators to convey boxed resin as necessary.
  • Support 5S initiatives in your area by ensuring proper standard zone markings (tape or painted lines) and labels.
  • Perform tasks according to documented procedures while achieving quality and safety standards.

Quality:

  • Ensure the correct supply of colorant and resin throughout the shift.
  • Follow standards to prevent mixing of resins and contamination that may lead to scrap parts or customer issues.

Relationship Management:

  • Immediately report issues to process technicians or supervisors if concerns arise that prevent you from performing your standard work or may cause potential issues.
  • Provide feedback to the management team to share ideas for improving operations, recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement activities and processes.

  • Support and comply with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other company policies and procedures.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Requirements:

  • Work independently, reviewed infrequently with minimal supervision  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  
  • Must have good organizational skills 
  • Excellent critical thinking skills 
  • Able to work cross functionally and collaboratively with many stakeholders  
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, write, and communicate in English. 

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • MH 2- or 6-months previous warehouse experience required
  • Manual and electric pallet jack operation – 6 months minimum experience
  • Ability to maneuver heavy loads utilizing manual pallet jack.
  • Must be able to understand station layouts & Bill of Materials 
  • Plastic injection molding experience a plus.

The manufacturing environment can be fast-paced and physically demanding, with exposure to various materials and processes that may result in a dirty workspace.
