MS–Tele Float RN – Travel Assignment Overview

Hiring & Compliance

  • Interview Process:
    • Conducted only with the MedSol Clinical Team
    • No unit manager involvement
  • Radius Requirement:
    • 60-mile radius rule
    • Driver’s License must be submitted
  • Housing Expectation:
    • Travelers must obtain housing that allows floating anywhere within the 60-mile zone
    • Requirement applies regardless of where the traveler chooses to live
  • Orientation Requirements:
    • Clinicians must be in-state during orientation week
    • First-day modules may be completed remotely
  • Important: NO HOME BASE FACILITY
    • Travelers float across multiple facilities within the region

Unit/Department: MS–Tele Float Pool

Float Expectations

  • Travelers must float throughout the entire zone (60-mile radius from zone’s city center)
  • May float outside the assigned facility to sister hospitals, including:
    • OrthoColorado Hospital (≈51 miles / ~1 hour from Denver)
    • Longmont United Hospital
    • St. Anthony Hospital
    • St. Anthony North Hospital
  • Float assignments are provided for each schedule block
    • First assignment communicated on or before Monday start date

  • General Med-Surg / Telemetry
  • Cardiac
  • Neuro
  • Oncology
  • Rehab
  • Renal
  • Bariatrics
  • Orthopedics
  • Trauma
  • ED Observation
  • General Surgery (Post-Appy, etc.)
  • Urology
  • Gynecology
  • ENT
  • Psych/Detox
  • Long-term/stable placement patients
  • Adult to geriatric population

Staffing & Ratios

  • RN Ratio: 1:5–6 depending on acuity
  • CNA/PCT Support: Yes
  • Charge Nurses:
    • Designated charge per unit
    • Typically no patient assignment, unless required (more common at night)

Clinical Skills & RequirementsRequired Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years MS–Tele experience
  • Neuro experience preferred

Drips

  • RNs are required to titrate:
    • Heparin
  • Other common titratable or set-rate drips may be unit-dependent

Respiratory Equipment

  • Ventilators
  • CPAP
  • BiPAP

Equipment & Systems

  • Remote telemetry
  • Standard MS-Tele equipment (varies by unit)
  • Support from RT available
  • (If needed, I can add charting system—let me know if it should be included.)

Shifts, Scheduling & Expectations

  • Shifts: 7a–7p or 7p–7a
  • Schedule:
    • Created by leadership in 6-week blocks
    • Travelers must be flexible to fill staffing gaps
    • Not self-scheduling
    • Block scheduling considered case-by-case
  • Time Off:
    • Must be submitted before assignment start

Weekend Requirements

  • 6–9 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule

Holiday Requirements

  • May be placed in the holiday rotation

Call / Standby

  • Rare
  • May be used during low census

Orientation

  • 1–2 days with a preceptor
  • Additional float zone or facility orientation as needed

Dress Code

  • Any color scrubs permitted
