Position Summary
The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) at Arbor Care Solutions delivers person-centered, strength-based peer support services to adults living with mental health or substance use challenges. Drawing from their own recovery journey, the CPSS provides hope, mentorship, and non-clinical support to help individuals build independence, increase community integration, and take ownership of their wellness. This role is grounded in mutual respect, shared experience, and a commitment to recovery-oriented principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Peer Engagement & Recovery Support
- Build positive, supportive relationships based on shared experience and mutual respect.
- Serve as a role model for recovery, wellness, and community living.
- Assist individuals in identifying personal recovery goals and creating individualized wellness strategies.
- Encourage development of self-advocacy, self-esteem, and community participation.
- Promote personal responsibility and empowerment throughout the recovery journey.
Community-Based Service Delivery
- Deliver all services in community settings such as client homes, shelters, libraries, parks, or other natural environments.
- Support individuals in accessing community resources (e.g., housing, healthcare, education, transportation, and employment).
- Coach clients in building daily living skills, problem-solving, and navigating systems.
- Provide support during transitions (e.g., discharge from hospitals, housing changes, or program transitions).
- Assist with appointment follow-through, goal setting, and motivational encouragement.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Participate in team meetings to provide peer-based input into service planning.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all services in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Collaborate with the team lead and service providers to coordinate supports aligned with the persons recovery goals.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional boundaries at all times.
- Participate in required peer support supervision, coaching, and ongoing training.
Qualifications
- Must hold a current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery is required.
- Minimum 1 year of sustained recovery preferred.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation required.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in the community.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and time management skills.
- Must be able to document services using an electronic record system.
- Completion of all required agency and Medicaid trainings within designated timeframes.
Work Expectations
- Full-time position, MondayFriday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Occasional flexibility may be required based on individual client needs.
- All services must be delivered in the community no office-based service delivery.
- Travel to client homes, public spaces, or other community settings required.
- Must consistently document services and maintain compliance with Medicaid policy and agency standards.
- Expected to model recovery-oriented values and uphold professional conduct in all interactions.
