Job Description

The Medical Assistant supports providers and clinical staff by performing both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care in a medical office or clinic setting.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Take and record patient vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, etc.)
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Assist providers during exams and minor procedures
  • Administer injections and medications as directed (within scope of practice)
  • Perform basic lab tests, EKGs, and specimen collection
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitized exam rooms
  • Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)

Administrative Duties

  • Greet and room patients in a professional and courteous manner
  • Schedule appointments and manage patient flow
  • Verify insurance and assist with referrals and prior authorizations
  • Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments and care instructions

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred
  • Certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred but not always required
  • CPR/BLS certification required or obtainable upon hire
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and EMR systems preferred
