Job Description
The Medical Assistant supports providers and clinical staff by performing both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care in a medical office or clinic setting.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Take and record patient vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, etc.)
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Assist providers during exams and minor procedures
- Administer injections and medications as directed (within scope of practice)
- Perform basic lab tests, EKGs, and specimen collection
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitized exam rooms
- Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Administrative Duties
- Greet and room patients in a professional and courteous manner
- Schedule appointments and manage patient flow
- Verify insurance and assist with referrals and prior authorizations
- Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records
- Coordinate follow-up appointments and care instructions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred
- Certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred but not always required
- CPR/BLS certification required or obtainable upon hire
- Knowledge of medical terminology and EMR systems preferred
