Safety Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead and enhance our construction site safety programs. The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing health and safety policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing risk, and promoting a strong safety culture across projects. The ideal candidate has hands-on construction experience, CHST certification, and proven experience managing safety programs at the site or corporate level.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve site-specific and company-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures tailored to construction projects
- Conduct regular site inspections, hazard assessments, and risk analyses to identify and mitigate potential safety issues
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Deliver and coordinate safety training and toolbox talks for employees, subcontractors, and site personnel; maintain training records
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards and industry best practices
- Perform audits and inspections of subcontractor safety performance; manage corrective action tracking and verification
- Prepare and maintain safety documentation, permits, reports, and metrics; produce regular safety performance reports for management
- Champion a culture of safety through leadership, coaching, mentoring, and by promoting employee involvement in safety initiatives
- Coordinate emergency response planning and drills; serve as point of contact for incident response and regulatory inspections
- Support pre-construction safety planning, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety input during project planning and procurement
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of safety experience in construction environments, with previous experience as a Safety Manager or in a comparable safety role (required)
- Construction experience required demonstrated hands-on knowledge of construction site operations and hazards (required)
- CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification required
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry best practices; experience applying standards on construction projects
- Proven experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to lead safety meetings, training sessions, and to influence all levels of the organization
- Competent in performing audits, inspections, and creating clear safety documentation and reports
- Ability to read plans, understand construction sequencing, and provide practical safety solutions during project execution
- Commercial construction experience is a plus (nice to have)
- OSHA 30-hour certification is a plus (nice to have)
