Position: Medical Assistant
Department: South Central Neurology
Reports to: Manager | Director
Job Summary
Plays a vital role in healthcare settings by providing both administrative and clinical support to physicians, nurses, and other medical staff. This position involves preparing patients for exams, taking vital signs, assisting during medical procedures, and handling routine office tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and processing insurance forms. Medical Assistants ensure that medical offices and clinics run efficiently while delivering high-quality patient care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Core Duties:
•Recording and/or reporting to the appropriate nurse any treatments, results, observations, patient complaints, and other pertinent information regarding the condition of patients.
•Assisting in maintaining a clean and safe environment for the patients and staff; being responsible for equipment assigned to patient care.
•Ensuring patient safety.
•Assisting with the orientation of new personnel to the unit.
•Performing duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision.
•Assists Physicians with procedures and exams.
•Screen telephone calls and messages for the provider, answering questions that can be answered.
•Schedule surgeries, outpatient and diagnostic procedures, as ordered by the Physician.
•Prescription needs as authorized by Physicians
•Completing prior authorizations and referrals
•Administer injections
QualificationsEducation and Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Must be able to read, write, understand verbal and written communication
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Medical Assistant Experience-Medical Assistant Certification Preferred
