Become a part of our team at the Department of Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic located in Martinez, CA, as a Physician specializing in Ophthalmology!
We are seeking a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Glaucoma Specialist, or Medical Retina Specialist for a full-time position within the Northern California VA Eye Section. We welcome candidates with various skill sets for three locations: Martinez VA, Sacramento VA Outpatient Hospital, and Stockton VA. The role may involve working at two sites or be full-time at Stockton VA. Exceptional surgical skills in anterior segment and cataract procedures are essential for Comprehensive Ophthalmology, with experience in MIGS being a plus. For the Glaucoma Specialist role, fellowship training in Glaucoma is mandatory, as we currently have only one Glaucoma MD in Northern California VA.
Our facilities feature state-of-the-art operating rooms at both the Martinez and Sacramento VA Hospitals. Surgical procedures at Stockton VA are conducted at a privately contracted Ambulatory Surgery Center in Tracy, CA. This position offers an impressive surgical volume, especially for those stationed at Martinez and Sacramento, where you will also supervise residents (note: there are no residents at Stockton VA). Each site is equipped with dedicated technician and nursing support, as well as on-site YAG, Argon, and SLT lasers, IOL Master Biometry, Visual Field testing, fundus imaging, optometry services, and an optical shop.

- Salary: Anticipated salary range from $300K to $335K, negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

- Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional Saturday clinics or extended weekday hours as needed.
- Compensation: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
- Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid leave annually, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and potentially 5 days for CME.
- Retirement: Traditional federal pension with a 5-year vesting period and a federal 401K with up to 5% contributions from the VA.
- Insurance: Comprehensive federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance options (many can be carried into retirement).
- Licensure: Must hold one full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.
- CME: Up to $1,000 per year for reimbursement (must be full-time and board certified).
- Malpractice: Liability protection provided, including tail coverage.
- Contract: No physician employment contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.
