Overview
Contemporaries Inc. is a government contracting firm supporting Health and Human Services, Office of the Surgeon General in their efforts to find a skilled Scientific/Health Research Librarian to support critical public health priorities and national health initiatives on a long-term contract. This mid-level professional will play a key role in researching, organizing, and synthesizing scientific information that informs Surgeon General reports, public health initiatives, and health policy development.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive literature searches across scientific, medical, and government databases.
- Collect, analyze, and synthesize research findings into clear, concise summaries and briefs for leadership.
- Support development of health policies and initiatives by providing evidence-based research on diverse public health topics.
- Review and track emerging health trends, scientific publications, and data sources.
- Manage reference materials, digital archives, and research repositories to ensure accessibility and accuracy.
- Prepare annotated bibliographies, research compendiums, briefing documents, and background materials.
- Evaluate scientific accuracy and quality of research materials and resources used by the office.
- Collaborate with scientists, analysts, and policy professionals across HHS to support mission-driven initiatives.
- Assist with rapid-response research needs for time-sensitive public health issues or ongoing projects.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS), Public Health, Health Sciences, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field.
- Experience in health, scientific, or biomedical research environments.
- Strong knowledge of medical and scientific research methodologies and evidence evaluation.
- Proficiency with major health and science databases.
- Exceptional skills in synthesizing large volumes of data into actionable insights.
- Strong writing, editing, and data presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience supporting federal government programs or health agencies is highly desirable.
- Prefer candidates with familiarity with public health initiatives or health policy development.
- Able to work onsite in Washington, DC
