The Construction Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating costs associated with civil, structural, and architectural elements of construction projects. This role involves reviewing project plans and specifications, assessing material and labor requirements, calculating accurate cost estimates, and helping develop bid proposals. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction processes, material costs, and industry standards, combined with the ability to communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and subcontractors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cost Analysis: Evaluate project documents to determine costs for manpower, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Quantity Take-offs: Calculate precise material quantities needed from plans.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for bids and proposals.
- Vendor/Subcontractor Management: Solicit and verify quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Collaboration: Work with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to refine estimates.
- Cost Control: Identify cost-saving opportunities (value engineering) and track actual vs. estimated costs.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records and present cost reports.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimates.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven track record of preparing estimates for medium to large-scale construction projects, including both public and private sector work Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
- Experience with estimating software and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in mathematical data management.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
- Understanding of construction methods and materials.
Physical Demands:
- Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
- Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
- Occasional lifting (up to 40 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
- Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements)
