Deliver comprehensive nursing care on a dynamic Surgical Specialty Unit (SSU) focused on post-operative patients. This contract role offers a stimulating environment managing diverse cases including colorectal, bariatric, and advanced wound care in a 20-private-bed unit. Employ your med-surg expertise while utilizing advanced skills in ostomy and central line management, nutritional supplementation, and postoperative care.

Location:
Positioned in Olathe, KS, with the worksite situated in Overland Park, the facility is recognized for excellence in colorectal and robotics surgery and bariatric care certifications, providing professionals an opportunity to contribute to a highly regarded unit distinguished as an HCA Unit of Distinction for Med-Surg in 2021.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to post-operative patients in a 20-bed unit with an average nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1 (5:1 with a tech).
  • Manage complex procedures such as ostomy irrigation, NGT and Foley catheter placements, central line care, wound management, and blood administration.
  • Administer nutritional support including TPN and manage G/J tubes.
  • Utilize medical equipment including Alaris IV pumps, telemetry, wound vacs, and capnostream monitors.
  • Maintain accurate documentation via the MediTech system.
  • Participate in scheduling on a rotating basis, including every third weekend and select weekdays.
  • Float as needed to related units like ortho neuro, med/telemetry, and CDU.

Qualifications:

  • Active RN license with strong med-surg background.
  • Proficiency in post-operative nursing care and advanced clinical skills as described.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a multidisciplinary team.

Schedule:

  • Every 3rd weekend
  • Two Mondays and Fridays per 4-week period
