Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A specialized nursing role is available in a newly opening progressive care unit (PCU) that will transition to an intensive care unit (ICU) by the end of the year. This contract position begins in late September through early October at a prominent medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, known for its comprehensive cardiac services and Level 1 trauma designation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide advanced nursing care for cardiac-focused patients, including those with CHF, cardiomyopathy, tamponade, shock, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cardiac catheterization, arrhythmias, and post-cardiac surgeries such as CABG and heart transplants.
• Manage complex equipment and treatments including Swan-Ganz catheters, Impella devices, chest tubes, trachs, arterial lines, and all types of drips (pressors, sedation, cardiac).
• Apply nursing skills for wound care, dressing changes, defibrillation, EKG interpretation, cardioversions, and management of post-arrest care.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including hospitalists, intensivists, resident physicians, respiratory therapists, and telehealth technicians.
• Adapt to patient ratios initially averaging 1:3-4, progressing to 1:2-3 as the unit transitions to full ICU status.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years ICU or PCU nursing experience; CVICU experience is preferred.
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Demonstrated skills in general ICU nursing, cardiac patient care, and managing advanced monitoring and life-support equipment.
• Experience with LVAD or post-cardiac transplant patients is highly desirable, with training provided if needed.
• Ability to effectively interpret EKGs and manage complex cardiac patients.
• Willingness to float to related units within nursing scope.
