Overview
Survey Party chief Reports directly to Survey Team Leader and receives project assignments and directions from various Survey Project Managers. Responsible for completion of various field surveying assignments by using procedures and techniques appropriate to the task assignment. Clearly and legibly records all pertinent field notes and information in proper field books as required depending on task assignment. Field Crew Leaders are responsible for training, direct supervision and safety of all field technicians as assigned. Ensures all appropriate safety procedures, precautions, P.P.E. and traffic control devices are properly placed prior to start of daily field survey operations. Responsible for organization, maintenance, and safe operation of assigned survey vehicles. Reports to Survey Team Leader and Project Surveyor for daily project briefings and debriefings. Uploads and downloads field data daily or as directed. Some survey project assignments may require travel including overnight stays.
Primary Duties:
- Boundary, Topographic, and Construction Staking field surveying as well as office related tasks.
- Arrive at work on time, properly dressed, and prepared to go to work
- Supervision of assigned field technicians
- Direction and assistance with clearing of brush and trees on lines using various brush clearing tools
- Properly place appropriate safety and traffic control devices daily, prior to start of
- Properly wear appropriate safety equipment and clothing
- Trains inexperienced staff for setting up tripods and proper use of survey equipment
- Ensures work truck is well organized, clean, and stocked with day-to-day supplies
- Ensures all equipment batteries are properly charged and stored for use
- Proficient with use of data collector setup and capable of troubleshooting problems
- Daily uploading and downloading data files, notes and other survey project related reports
- Uses prescribed point and line coding, and correctly saves collected points
- Represents the company in a respectful, polite, and professional manner
- Willing to learn from the Survey Team Leader and Survey Project Managers
- Familiar with standards of practice related to general surveying and mapping

Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- > 3 years of party chief experience, candidate must be proficient in basic field crew operations
- Basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Capable of solving problems and critical thinking
- Ability to work and carry heavy objects in extreme weather conditions and harsh terrain
- Proficient with use of field data collector, GPS, Ronitic total station, and digital and optical levels. Trimble experience preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and work ethics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Functional with Microsoft Word, and Excel
- Willingness to learn additional office software like Trimble Business Center and Civil 3D
- Must be team-oriented and self-motivated
- Must have valid Driver’s license

Salary Range
$30.00 - $40.00 per hour (DOE)
