Position Summary:
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs that promote a safe and compliant workplace. This position ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations while fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization. The EHS Specialist conducts training, investigates incidents, manages safety programs, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to reduce workplace risks and environmental impacts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety Program Administration
- Develop, implement, and maintain company safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and company safety requirements.
- Conduct regular facility safety inspections and audits.
- Monitor workplace conditions and identify potential hazards.
- Recommend and implement corrective actions to reduce safety risks.
Training & Employee Development
- Coordinate and conduct new hire safety orientation.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and supervisors.
- Maintain training records and ensure required certifications remain current.
- Promote employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives.
Incident Investigation & Reporting
- Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents.
- Determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain OSHA logs and required safety documentation.
- Prepare reports and communicate findings to management.
Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to waste disposal, recycling, air emissions, chemical storage, and hazardous materials.
- Coordinate environmental inspections and reporting requirements.
- Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventories.
- Assist with environmental permits and regulatory documentation.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and risk assessments.
- Monitor safety performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities.
- Lead safety committees and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and implement programs to reduce injuries and improve safety performance.
Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and maintain emergency response procedures.
- Coordinate fire extinguisher inspections, evacuation drills, and emergency preparedness activities.
- Serve as a resource during emergency situations.
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain compliance records and documentation.
- Coordinate OSHA inspections and regulatory agency visits.
- Stay informed of regulatory changes and communicate impacts to management.
- Ensure timely completion of required reports and filings.

Maintains accurate records, reports, permits, training documentation, and compliance-related files.

Uses data and safety metrics to identify trends, improve programs, and enhance workplace safety performance.
Attention to Detail
Ensures accuracy and completeness in inspections, audits, reports, investigations, and compliance documentation.
Reliability & Accountability
Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and ownership of safety and environmental responsibilities.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and implement programs.
- Experience with safety training development and delivery.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to influence and coach employees at all levels.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping requirements and regulatory compliance.
- Experience conducting safety training and investigations preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- The employee is regularly required to speak, hear, and sit for extended periods of time. Frequently the employees are required to use their hands and fingers to handle or feel, as well as reach with hands and arms. Occasionally the employee is required to stand and walk, lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include near, far, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of safety, environmental, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
