Job DescriptionAbout the role: The individual assigned to this position is responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation of power projects located in Maine. The projects consist of several FERC-Licensed hydroelectric power stations and associated infrastructure and reports to a local Regional Manager.

What you’ll do:

  • Qualify in and maintain qualifications for all facility-designated operating watch-standing positions.
  • Maintain security at the main powerhouse and at all outlying pump houses.
  • Observe and record facility parameters.
  • Identify any abnormal plant condition and taking the appropriate corrective actions when possible.
  • Remain in strict adherence to Dam Safety policies and procedures.
  • Start, stop, and control all physical plant assets utilizing both local and remote systems.
  • Safeguard the plant by complying with and enforcing all facility safety policies.
  • Maintain and enforce all local, state and federal environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and record all facility related events as appropriate.
  • Operate the plant in the most efficient manner possible without degrading plant equipment.
  • Comply with company standards, practices and policies.
  • Assist in developing and improving operational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate logbook entries.
  • Provide accurate operational and maintenance records as required.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting tasks and make repairs in a safe, timely manner.
  • Provide weekly production and outage report information.
  • Adequately manage contractor personnel in order to maximize efficiency and effectiveness and to minimize costs.
  • Perform maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Respond to all plant call-outs, when necessary.
  • Lead LOTO, confined space entry, safety orientation, and other needed safety and compliance documentation.
  • Supervise Operators and at times maintenance personnel.
  • Approve timecards, vacations, expense reports.
  • Lead smaller projects.
  • Lead maintenance and project safety kick off meetings.
  • Complete monthly safety and operational reporting.
  • Perform other collateral duties as assigned.

What you’ll need:

  • At least three years of related experience in a power plant or industrial setting highly preferred.
  • An unwavering commitment to safety, both for ECRE employees and contractors and the public in general.
  • Instrumentation and control system experience, including troubleshooting of PLC based control systems and general calibration of instrumentation devices preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and report all downtime related events in a timely manner to the regional manager.
  • Experience with basic industrial maintenance techniques preferred.
  • The ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational certificate or degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Outlook, etc.) for use in business communication.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform manual tasks including but not limited to:
    • The operation of hand and power tools and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
    • Being able to bend and maneuver in tight, cramped quarters.
    • Ability to work in hot, noisy, and dark environments, often alone and isolated.
    • Comfortability working at heights and around water.
    • Ability to work with and wear respiratory protection.
    • Reach with hands and arms above shoulder level and at shoulder level.
    • Walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
    • Grip and manually manipulate, often in repetitive motion, items such as but not limited to hand tools and machine parts.
    • Read and identify labels, gauges, dials, and indicators typically encountered in performing job duties.
  • Possess clear and effective verbal communication in all circumstances, including emergency situations and giving/receiving instructions over a radio.
