Electrical Designer

Your Role at BSI

Our Electrical Engineering team has many years of experience designing power distribution systems for clients in many different industries. Our Electrical Designers work closely with our full-service team to ensure a fully integrated design package of the highest quality is provided. They assess client needs and create designs that ensure Code compliance and personnel safety, while achieving the client’s desired goals. Project scopes will range from full facility and process designs for greenfield projects to retrofits and upgrades of equipment in existing sites.


To support collaboration, mentorship opportunities, and effective project execution, BSI Engineering has adopted a hybrid work schedule in which employees are in the office a minimum of three days per week.

Responsibilities and Scope

  • With supervision, gathers field data
  • With supervision, uses the design criteria document(s) to meet the project objectives
  • Ensures quality and technical accuracy of assigned deliverables
  • Follows the BSI standard operating procedures and client standards
  • With supervision, performs or ensures applicable calculations and design effort to prepare assigned drawings and deliverables. Applies good judgement and engineering principles in all their work
  • Assists with identifying issues within the 2D drawings and/or 3D model and/or site scans
  • Meets individual schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
  • Provides input to identify individual training needs and goals. Receives training from others and may attend outside seminars
  • Assists in the design of:
    • Low voltage (600V and below) power distribution systems.
    • MCCs, including single lines and layout of MCC elevations
    • Electrical heat tracing systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Cable tray and conduit routing
    • Specialty systems, including data, communication, fire alarm and security systems
  • Coordination with other disciplines for equipment and physical space requirements
  • Continually communicates their individual forecasted staffing requirements for their assigned projects
  • Strives to achieve the targeted billability goals for position


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required
  • 3 years of industry experience
  • Developing AutoCAD skills
  • Developing Revit skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Decision making skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Developing understanding of the National Electric Code


Desired Qualifications

  • Associate Electrical Engineering Technology Degree and/or Computer Drafting and Design Degree preferred, but not required
  • Consulting experience preferred
  • Industrial power distribution design experience
  • Familiarity with MCC’s, PDP’s, switchgear, switchboards, and other industrial power equipment
  • Familiarity with Visual or other lighting calculation software
  • Familiarity with placing and powering electrical and lighting devices in Revit
  • Exposure to Revit modeling and reviewing designs in 3D models
