Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years Stepdown RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Deliver intermediate care nursing to diverse patients requiring close cardiac and multisystem monitoring in a 29-bed stepdown unit with capabilities to expand. This contract role is based in Hopewell, VA, and is designed specifically for travel nurses living 50 miles or more from the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, prioritize problems, and implement evidence-based plans of care
- Administer medications safely, monitor advanced cardiac rhythms, and manage oxygen therapy, IVs, wound care, and NG tubes
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families to coordinate care and education
- Respond proactively to acute changes, applying critical thinking and clinical judgement
- Float to other medical/surgical or telemetry units as required
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current RN license within compact state eligibility
- Minimum 2 years recent acute care nursing experience, stepdown or telemetry preferred
- Critical thinking, communication, and time management skills imperative
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS; Dysrhythmia exam must be completed prior to assignment (study guide provided)
- Experience with electronic documentation and cardiac drip knowledge preferred
- Prior travel nurse experience recommended
- Ability to work 12-hour day shifts, including every other weekend and holiday coverage
