Overview
Pharmacy Internship designed to familiarize the intern with the Home Infusion Industry, including nutrition, specialty drugs, and other IV medications provided to patients in the home care and ambulatory infusion settings
Schedule:
Monday - Saturday
9:00am - 5:00pm
Responsibilities
- Helps health care providers and patients by greeting by phone; answering questions and requests
- Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Prescription activities in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Organize medications for pharmacists to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions; preparing labels; calculating quantities
- Counseling regarding IV medications
- Assisting pharmacist with dispensing
- Communicates with patients and physician office staff to coordinate medication refill deliveries
- Compliance with professional practice and patient confidentiality laws.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
- Documentation of adverse events and outcomes
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in Pharmacy studies at an accredited university.
- Valid Pharmacy Intern permit in the state of the pharmacy.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and be flexible
- Good organizational skills and detail oriented
- Knowledge of medical terminology (including sig codes and Roman numeral), brand and generic names of medications and general pharmacy terminology
- Ability to perform tasks accurately and efficiently when inputting information
- Basic math and analytical skills
- Intermediate typing/keyboarding skills
