Boerger LLC is a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of high-quality rotary lobe pumps, macerating technology, and custom pumping solutions for a variety of industries. With a strong commitment to innovation and quality, Boerger is expanding its capabilities with a new industrial control panel shop. We are currently seeking a talented and detail-oriented Controls Drafter / Estimator to support the quoting and drafting efforts for our custom control panel builds.
Position Overview:
As a Controls Drafter / Estimator at Boerger LLC, you’ll play a key role in the design and quoting of UL-rated industrial control panels. Working closely with our Controls Engineer and project team, you’ll be responsible for creating electrical schematics and layout drawings, selecting components, and preparing cost estimates. The ideal candidate will have hands-on panel design experience, strong drafting skills, and a desire for a stable, long-term role supporting day-to-day control panel operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical Drafting: Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings using electrical drafting software (EPLAN preferred; AutoCAD Electrical experience also acceptable).
- Quoting & Estimating: Prepare accurate cost estimates and BOMs for custom control panels, factoring in material costs, labor, and hardware.
- Component Selection: Assist in selecting electrical components including relays, sensors, terminal blocks, switches, and other hardware.
- Panel Design Support: Support the Controls Engineer in translating project requirements into production-ready documentation for shop builds.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of drawings, revisions, and build specs in accordance with UL508a and company standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, production, and sales teams to ensure designs align with budget and functional requirements.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for standardization and efficiency improvements in both drafting and estimating
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience designing panels for a UL-certified control panel shop.
- Familiarity with hazardous location panel design (e.g., intrinsically safe, explosion proof, purge/pressurized systems).
- Proficiency in electrical drafting software, preferably EPLAN. Experience with AutoCAD Electrical is also acceptable.
- Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards including NEC and UL508a.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple quoting and drafting tasks efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to high-quality work.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
