Job Description
The Financial Analyst reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Financial Analyst is responsible for recording transactions, performing analysis activities, and evaluating trends and drivers at Northwestern Medicine. The position will also be charged with the preparation and some review activities related to the month end close process; as well as support for the annual financial statement audit. The analyst will need to understand complex financial concepts in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Meet financial objectives by identifying and evaluating trends; analyzing variances; initiating any corrective actions or adjustments.
- Prepare reconciliations; analyze variances; and initiate corrective actions on transactions with a high degree of complexity in support for finance and operating departments.
- Provide support and analysis by querying appropriate data, preparing reports, making presentations of analysis, findings, and recommendations to management.
- Research and interpret changes in financial reporting policy, applying observations and recommendations to operational issues.
- Research and understand changes in the healthcare regulatory environment and the potential impact on reporting.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, adopting and implementing industry best practices, and participating in professional societies.
- Protect operations by keeping financial and patient information confidential.
- Support the finance operations of Northwestern Medicine.
- Maintain current knowledge of IRS tax regulations.
- Compile IRS required reports (Forms 990, 1120, 990-T, etc.) and develop estimate/extension planning.
- Compile state and local tax reporting (Forms AG990-IL, IL-990-T, IL-1120, sales and use tax, Cook County taxes, City of Chicago, etc.)
- Compile financial information for reporting to the Illinois Attorney General and the Illinois Department of Revenue related to community benefit and property taxes.
- Assist with responses to Federal/state audit activity and regulatory notices based on compliance/tax returns as previously filed.
- Research and understand changes in the regulatory environment and the potential impact on reporting.
Qualifications
Required:
- Degree in Finance / Accounting or related field
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and accounting skills
- High level of precision and attention to detail
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred:
- 1+ years professional, tax experience.
- Experience in a public accounting firm, tax-focused role.
- Experience in a non-profit tax role OR work experience with non-profit tax clients.
