Job Description
A Day in the Life
Radiation therapists are healthcare professionals who deliver high doses of ionizing radiation to treat cancer and other pathologies under the prescription and supervision of a radiation oncologist. They acquire and analyze data in preparation for treatment, use imaging technology to localize treatment areas, participate in treatment planning, and carry out daily therapy procedures with precision and safety.
As the primary liaison between patients and the radiation oncology team, radiation therapists maintain strong communication, provide ongoing patient assessment and monitoring, and support the emotional and physical needs of patients throughout multi-week treatment courses. They collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, dosimetrists, physicists, and other healthcare providers to ensure safe, accurate, and compassionate care.
- Deliver Safe and Accurate Radiation Therapy:
- Set up and operate radiation therapy equipment; perform dose calculations; verify patient positioning and treatment fields; conduct simulation procedures; and strictly follow radiation oncologist specifications and safety protocols.
- Provide High-Quality Patient Care:
- Explain procedures, maintain communication during treatment, ensure safe transfers, monitor patients for reactions, reinforce care instructions, and remain attentive to patient comfort and safety throughout the treatment course.
- Maintain Treatment Documentation & Billing:
- Manage therapy charts, record daily progress notes, verify patient identification and prescriptions, and maintain accurate billing logs.
- Support Equipment & Department Operations:
- Prepare treatment rooms, maintain supplies, clean and inspect equipment, perform routine preventive maintenance checks, and construct immobilization devices, compensators, custom blocks, and bolus materials.

Qualifications
What’s Required
- Bachelors degree in Radiation Therapy Technology OR graduate of an approved school of Radiation Therapy Technology.
- Between 1 and 3 months of on site training is required under the direction of the Radiation Oncology, medical physicist, department manager, and staff radiation therapist.
- Registered or registry eligible with the A.R.R.T.
- Must be able to work with patients who are critically ill.
- Must be able to set up and administer individual treatments with a minimum of supervision. Must have the mathematical ability to calculate treatment dosimetry on time.
- In accordance with the prescription and instructions of a Radiation Oncologist, operates radiation therapy equipment in order to simulate and/or treat patients. Performs radiation dosage calculations, routine preventative maintenance checks and warm up procedures on equipment as necessary.
Additional Information
Schedule: Monday - Friday (no weekends), Benefited, full-time position, Up to 40 hours per week
