Position Summary:
Responsible to Lead Provider. Provides patient care and education to assigned caseload of obstetrical and gynecological patients in accordance with established midwifery practice guidelines. Educates midwifery, medical and nursing students, and nursing and resident staff in normal childbirth.
Detailed Description of Position:
1. Administers direct prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum patient services and primary care to low-to-moderate risk obstetrical and gynecological patients.
2. Provides educational and other related services for well women care.
3. Educates midwifery, medical and nursing students, and nursing and resident staff in normal childbirth; may provide individual and/or clinical classroom instruction.
4. May perform administrative duties such as patient charting, oversight of a clinic and/or facility, or coordination of specific educational programs.
5. May serve or participate on the Center’s related committees.
6. Ensures strict confidentiality of patient records.
7. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
8. May be required to work on-call.
9. Performs job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of midwifery theory, procedure and standards.
2. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs.
3. Ability to perform patient assessment and triage.
4. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
5. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
6. Knowledge of gynecological health issues and trends.
7. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
8. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree; at least 1 year of directly related experience which may include practicum. Georgia Licensed Registered Nurse, Georgia Certified Nurse Midwife.
Typical Physical Demands:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work in environment. The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
Typical working Conditions:
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
