PURPOSE / GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:
TO FABRICATE STRUCTURAL & MISCELLANEOUS MEMBERS PER DRAWINGS RELEASED
FOR FABRICATION
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
FITTERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COLLECTING ALL PARTS FOR EACH MEMBER THEY ARE
FABRICATING. THEY ARE TO ASSEMBLE EACH MEMBER PER THE FABRICATION
DRAWINGS WITHIN A 1/8” TOLERANCE. ONCE FIT-UP IS COMPLETE, THEY ARE TO HAVE
EACH MEMBER CHECKED FOR ACCURACY BY A QUALITY CONTROL REPRESENTATIVE.
FINALLY, THEY ARE TO COMPLETE FABRICATION BY WELDING THE MEMBER OUT PER
THE WELDING SYMBOLS SHOWN ON FABRICATION DRAWINGS AND/OR BY BOLTING
INDIVIDUAL PIECES PER THE SPECIFIED TORQUE RANGE. THEY ARE TO THEN TRANSFER
THE MEMBERS TO THE PAINT YARD FOR CLEAN-UP AND PAINT. IF EVER A FITTER FINDS
THEMSELVES WITH NOTHING TO FIT OR WELD, THEY ARE TO FOLLOW THE
INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY SHOP FOREMAN TO AID IN OTHER DEPARTMENTS UNTIL
WORK BECOMES AVAILABLE.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR QUALIFICATIONS:
- MUST BE ABLE TO READ A TAPE MEASURE
- MUST BE ABLE TO READ AND INTERPRET BLUE PRINTS
- MUST BE ABLE TO READ AND INTERPRET WELDING SYMBOLS
- MUST BE ABLE TO GENERATE PARTS LISTS
- MUST BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY PARTS PER GATHER SHEETS AND CHECK FOR
- ACCURACY BEFORE FIT-UP
- MUST BE ABLE TO LAY-OUT MEMBERS PER FABRICATION DRAWINGS WITHIN A
- 1/8” TOLERANCE
- MUST BE CERTIFIED IN FLUX CORE WELDING
- MUST BE CERTIFIED TO OPERATE OVERHEAD CRANES
- MUST BE ABLE TO USE JOB SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED
