Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for working within the framework of the objectives and policies established by the Executive Team and will plan and coordinate nursing services with those of the medical and administrative systems of RR. The DON will participate as a member of RRs Leadership Team in planning, policy formulation and administrative decision making with the attention to the role, functions, and operations of RRs nursing services to our clients. This position is responsible for client care, management, resource management and fiscal management.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Defines and maintains RRs standards of nursing practices.
Assesses the quality of care rendered.
Initiates the development of policies and procedures that govern nursing services and other services under his or her supervision.
Collaborates with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved client care and staff development.
Work with the Finance department in the planning, developing and implementation of a budget process for the department.
Evaluates the quality and cost-effectiveness of staffing and services within the goals of the company.
Participates in meetings and committees.
Encourages and supports research and improvement studies that can make meaningful contributions to the quality and economy of nursing services.
Supervises and maintains the schedule for the Nursing Department and ensures the accurate process of physician orders.
Ensure that staff provides appropriate nursing care according to physician/extender orders, administering medication accurately and nursing care is in conformance with established standards and nursing policies.
Responsible for ensuring that staff responds therapeutically to inappropriate client behavior.
Supervise and ensure that staff is performing accurate initial and ongoing nursing assessments, notifying physician/extender of significant changes in the client, developing nursing care plans to meet client needs, document complete nursing progress notes in the system, and explain planned therapy and treatment to the client.
Ensure that clients are being educated on medical tests, procedures, medications, and other items as appropriate and ensure appropriate documentation is being followed.
Ensure that staff is maintaining accurate inventory of controlled substances, accurately performing veni- puncture and correctly perform dressing changes.
Participates in continuing education programs conducted by the facility.
Participates in annual needs assessment for department.
Maintains current CPR certification.
Adheres to facility confidentiality policies and procedures.
Displays a cooperative and positive attitude towards callers, clients, staff, and visitors.
Participates on the facility's Disaster Team (hurricane evacuation, etc.)
Participates in treatment planning meetings.
Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions in accordance with OSHA regulations.
Provides direction and leadership in client care to staff and demonstrates the ability to teach, coach and direct staff on new procedures.
Be available for shifts during evening, nights, and weekends if short staffed.
All other duties as outlined by the Executive Team
Required Qualifications:
Professional nurse with a current state license and in good standing
Associates degree in Nursing
Licensed RN
One (1) year or more working in a supervisory role
