Title: Mechanical Engineer

Supervisor: Project Manager Department: Construction FLSA Status: Exempt / Salaried

Summary/Objective

The Mechanical Engineer will analyze design plans and specifications for various mechanical systems and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration systems, renewable energy systems, fire sprinkler systems, and electromechanical building management systems. Utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering theory and ASHRAE guidelines, the engineer will compute load requirements, output parameters, and operational complexities to identify optimal mechanical systems and equipment suited to site-specific conditions and customer needs

Essential Functions

  • Upon project award, the engineer will collaborate with the project's Professional Registered Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Manager, and other engineers. The goal is to review constructability and apply value engineering before submitting 60%, 95%, and final design plans and specifications. This includes assessing load requirements, ductwork analysis, and system compatibility, ensuring compliance with mechanical engineering standards.
  • The engineer will also work with the engineering team to develop construction methodologies and baseline schedules. This involves detailing material quantities, manpower, equipment, and costs to meet project specifications. Responsibilities include preparing bid proposals, analyzing subcontractor bids, and ensuring compatibility and compliance with mechanical plans.
  • During the construction phase, the engineer will oversee the execution of mechanical works, ensuring adherence to plans, specifications, and codes. This includes monitoring installations, providing technical assistance, resolving issues, and preparing necessary documentation. The engineer will also oversee the testing and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment, ensuring they meet design and operational standards.
  • Monitoring progress, preparing reports, and revising schedules as necessary to resolve delays is crucial. The engineer will attend meetings to address performance and technical issues and ensure project expenditures remain within budget.
  • Additionally, the engineer will assist in preparing schedules of values for completed works, analyze subcontractors’ progress payments, and provide cost analysis for change orders. The role also involves preparing as-built drawings, close-out documents, and support for contract modifications.
  • Finally, the engineer will provide mechanical engineering analysis for prospective projects, preparing cost estimates and bidding documents for mechanical construction elements.

    • Thorough knowledge of project management.
    • BA degree in Engineering or related degrees required.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Work Environment

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
