Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to provide essential clinical support and high-quality patient care to ensure the smooth operation of our hospital. This role works closely with veterinarians and technicians to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment while prioritizing the comfort and well-being of our patients.
The Hospital Assistant follows established protocols for animal handling, sanitation, and clinical assistance. By modeling teamwork and a proactive attitude, this role ensures that our medical team can focus on advanced care while patients remain in a sanitary and supportive environment. Any concerns regarding patient status or facility needs are communicated promptly to the Lead Technician or Department Manager.
What You’ll Do
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with animal handling, restraint, and various clinical procedures.
- Provide general care to hospitalized animals, including feeding, bathing, and monitoring for any behavior or condition changes.
- Prepare and assist with medications, lab samples, and other clinical tasks as directed by the medical team.
- Support emergency cases and assist with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and owner visits.
- Sanitation & Maintenance: Clean and disinfect exam rooms, kennels, and surgical areas to ensure a sanitary and comfortable environment for all patients.
- Restock supplies throughout the hospital and ensure all equipment is clean and functional.
- Perform accurate record keeping and data entry, and communicate patient updates to veterinary staff in a timely manner.
- Deliver compassionate service and emotional support to pet owners during their time at the hospital.
- Adhere to hospital safety and infection control protocols to protect staff and patients.
- Foster excellent working relationships across all departments and attend all department and hospital staff meetings.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in a veterinary setting or animal care facility (emergency or specialty experience is a plus).
- Demonstrated ability to safely handle and restrain animals of various temperaments.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-doctor environment.
- Exceptional emotional control, empathy, and reliability under pressure.
- Demonstrates initiative, a growth-oriented mindset, and a desire to learn from senior medical staff.
