Job Description
This role supports the installation of fire sprinkler systems as a junior fitter and plumber’s helper. You will work with various types of sprinkler and plumbing pipe, assist with installing main and branch lines, and help install sprinkler heads on commercial and residential projects. The position is hands-on, field-based, and ideal for someone who wants to build a long-term career in the fire protection and construction industry.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation of fire sprinkler systems under the direction of experienced fitters.
- Work with sprinkler pipe, including grooved pipe, threaded screw pipe, and cast iron pipe.
- Help install main lines and branch lines for sprinkler systems according to project specifications.
- Assist in installing and positioning sprinkler heads in accordance with layout and safety requirements.
- Read and interpret basic blueprints and installation drawings to support accurate pipe and sprinkler placement.
- Use power tools and hand tools safely and correctly for cutting, threading, grooving, and assembling pipe and fittings.
- Support general plumbing-related tasks as needed on job sites.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all site safety rules and procedures.
- Load, unload, and move materials, tools, and equipment as required for daily work.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and senior fitters, and communicate any issues or delays promptly.
- Assist with basic measurements and layout to ensure proper alignment and installation of piping.
- Comply with OSHA safety standards and company safety policies at all times.
- Drive to various job sites as needed, using a valid driver’s license and following all traffic and safety regulations.
Essential Skills
- Experience or strong interest in plumbing, fire sprinkler installation, or construction trades.
- Ability to read and understand basic blueprints and installation drawings.
- Proficiency in using common power tools and hand tools safely and effectively.
- General knowledge of plumbing or sprinkler system components, including pipe, fittings, and sprinkler heads.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to different job sites.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work as part of a team on active construction sites.
- Physical ability to lift materials, work on ladders, and perform manual labor throughout the workday.
- Strong attention to safety and willingness to follow all safety protocols.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior field experience in plumbing, fire sprinkler installation, or general construction is a plus.
- Comfort working with grooved, threaded, and cast iron pipe systems.
- Basic math and measurement skills for layout and installation tasks.
- Reliable transportation to reach various Long Island job sites.
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to work occasional overtime.
- Interest in building a long-term career in fire protection or the mechanical trades.

Work Environment
Work takes place on job sites across Long Island, primarily in Suffolk and Nassau counties. Standard hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with some overtime available based on project needs. The role is field-based and physically active, involving work on construction sites, use of power and hand tools, and handling of various types of sprinkler and plumbing pipe. You will work closely with a crew in a trade-focused environment that emphasizes safety, punctuality, and teamwork. Appropriate workwear suitable for construction sites is expected, including adherence to all required safety gear and site-specific safety practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brentwood, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
