Currently we are in search of a Safety and Health Supervisor for our Macon, Georgia manufacturing facility. The hours for this position are to be determined.

Job Summary

Accountable to provide management oversight and direct the employee safety, health, and security function of the assigned area and shift. Accountable for directing and maintaining safety management system to ensure that the assigned area is in compliance at all times and safety protocol is being followed appropriately. Perform other functional tasks as needed.

Primary Duties

  • Provide safety and health expertise relating to applicable regulations, controls and counter-measures to ensure organizational and personnel compliance. Areas include, and not limited to, guidance in the areas of OSHA standards such as isolation/control of hazardous energy (i.e., lockout/tagout), electrical safety, machine guarding, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, hazard communication/chemical management and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify opportunities through observations and audits to enhance organizational and personnel compliance and reduce risk. Develop, implement and monitor action plans.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, direct and maintain safety and health management programs for the assigned area exercising discretion to take appropriate counter-measures for assuring compliance. May include taking corrective disciplinary action and equipment shutdown.
  • Responds to and oversees the response of all emergency responses in the assigned area consistent with standards and procedures. Assures all incident reports are completed timely and properly identified as initial report. Works with department management and other appropriate leadership to finalize investigations, reports, and identify root-cause.
  • Conduct or oversee various safety and health training sessions for the assigned area to help create a safer and more knowledgeable workforce. Monitor and take appropriate action with department first-line supervisors and department managers to assure compliance with training schedule. Appropriately consult with Human Resources Department.
  • Facilitate and maintain communications with operators, maintenance technicians, engineers, first-line supervisors, managers, and expat personnel to build and maintain constructive and effective relationships to achieve a safe work environment.
  • Interface with security personnel and direct enforcement of company security policies such as badging, contractors and non-employee access, and asset protection during assigned shift.
  • Be on-call and respond to off-hours events affecting the safety and health of company assets or personnel; fill in for management absences as needed; perform other duties assigned.
  • Demonstrated ability to report to work on a regular and consistent basis; work safely; and follow company policies and procedures.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; make presentations as necessary.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as may be assigned or expected.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a related field of study.
  • Three to five years’ experience in a safety-related position involving OSHA standards and/or emergency medical response; experience in an industrial setting preferred; experience implementing safety processes and programs; experience tracking, trending and reporting health and safety related data; experience in leading and influencing others to follow and comply with standards and rules.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA hazard communications, incident investigation, and safety training methods. Knowledge of industry best practices regarding safety and environmental approaches with PSM RMP safety practices helpful. People management skills, conflict resolution skills, communication skills, leadership skills, ability to driving change and culture, ability to work in high pressure environment, ability to work in situations with exposure to others’ injury and illness, ability to meet critical deadlines, ability to communicate to multiple job levels, time management skills, organizational skills, knowledge of security protocols and procedures, and working knowledge of Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements

  • Office or Other Indoor Work: With minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting/moving materials less than 25 pounds.
  • Walking, ascending/descending stairs, standing, sitting, lifting and potential climbing ladders and working at heights in emergency situations or conducting audits.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which requires precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, respirators, face masks, ear protection, etc.
  • Work is performed in an environment with potential exposure to injuries and hazardous conditions; inside and outside environmental conditions.
