Job DescriptionSalary:

DB Environmental, Inc. (DBE) is accepting resumes for a full-time Chemist to support a contracted position with the South Florida Water Management District (District), located at 8894 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, Florida.

Position Summary

This is a staff level chemist position responsible performing various tasks in an environmental laboratory certified under the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP). Tasks will include:

  • sample preparation and inorganic analyses using automated and manual methods, which may utilize imaging multi-mode plate readers, HPLC systems, flow injection analyzers, plasma emission spectrophotometers, ion chromatographs, and carbon analyzers,
  • calibration and monitoring of instrument output to ensure quality control standards are met,
  • routine instrument maintenance,
  • instrumentation troubleshooting as needed,
  • data entry into the laboratory information management system (LIMS),
  • general support for laboratory washing and decontamination of field and lab equipment, and
  • sample receiving and log-in support.

All work will be performed according to the current standard operating procedures (SOP) using established protocols that ensure turnaround time, quality, and productivity expectations are met.

Employment Guidelines

  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in a natural or physical science, or related field.
  • At least 2 years related work experience in a scientific discipline is desired.
  • Familiarity with basic environmental laboratory procedures, including sample log-in, sample preparation, inorganic laboratory analysis, and automated analytical laboratory instruments.
  • Experience in following certified laboratory QA/QC requirements and good laboratory practices.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety and chemical hygiene.
  • Experience in using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is desired.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and proven organizational, time, and self-management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

The position requires lifting (up to 40 pounds), prolonged standing, repetitive bending and reaching, and periodic exposure to refrigerated conditions to retrieve samples. Primary activities are performed in a laboratory where employees routinely use numerous chemical compounds, reagents, gases, acids and bases.
