Job Description
Overview
We are seeking an experienced cell biologist or bioprocess associate with proven hands-on expertise in the isolation and expansion of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from Wharton’s jelly of human umbilical cords. The role focuses on developing reproducible workflows for UC-MSC banking, characterization, and preclinical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Wharton’s jelly dissection and MSC isolation using enzymatic digestion and/or explant methods.
- Culture, expand, and bank MSCs under aseptic conditions (BSL-2 / GMP-compliant labs).
- Conduct quality control and characterization per ISCT MSC criteria (flow cytometry, tri-lineage differentiation).
- Maintain detailed records for regulatory and IP purposes.
- Collaborate with QA/QC and process development teams to optimize yields and viability.
Required Experience
- Documented success in isolating primary MSCs from umbilical cord tissue (please provide approximate number of cords processed).
- Familiarity with GMP/GLP or equivalent aseptic technique standards.
- Flow cytometry and differentiation assays for MSC identity.
- Strong troubleshooting and protocol optimization skills.
Preferred
- Experience in stem cell banking or cell therapy manufacturing facility.
- Knowledge of FDA/EMA regulatory requirements for advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs).
Application Requirement
Candidates must describe:
- Which isolation method(s) they have used (enzymatic vs. explant).
- Their average cell yield & viability per cord processed.
- Examples of QC markers and assays performed.
- Any GMP or QA training.
