Job Description

Overview
We are seeking an experienced cell biologist or bioprocess associate with proven hands-on expertise in the isolation and expansion of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from Wharton’s jelly of human umbilical cords. The role focuses on developing reproducible workflows for UC-MSC banking, characterization, and preclinical applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Wharton’s jelly dissection and MSC isolation using enzymatic digestion and/or explant methods.
  • Culture, expand, and bank MSCs under aseptic conditions (BSL-2 / GMP-compliant labs).
  • Conduct quality control and characterization per ISCT MSC criteria (flow cytometry, tri-lineage differentiation).
  • Maintain detailed records for regulatory and IP purposes.
  • Collaborate with QA/QC and process development teams to optimize yields and viability.

Required Experience

  • Documented success in isolating primary MSCs from umbilical cord tissue (please provide approximate number of cords processed).
  • Familiarity with GMP/GLP or equivalent aseptic technique standards.
  • Flow cytometry and differentiation assays for MSC identity.
  • Strong troubleshooting and protocol optimization skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in stem cell banking or cell therapy manufacturing facility.
  • Knowledge of FDA/EMA regulatory requirements for advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs).

Application Requirement
Candidates must describe:

  1. Which isolation method(s) they have used (enzymatic vs. explant).
  2. Their average cell yield & viability per cord processed.
  3. Examples of QC markers and assays performed.
  4. Any GMP or QA training.
