A K-12 educational institution in Brewton, Alabama, is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential munication support for students throughout the school year. This contract position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic learning environment, facilitating effective munication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate accurate and clear interpretation of spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, school events, and meetings
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure accessibility and inclusion for students with hearing impairments
- Assist in creating an inclusive learning environment by promoting effective munication strategies
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and school personnel
- Adapt interpretation techniques based on different settings and individual student needs
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational setting
- Familiarity with K-12 curriculum and school environments is highly desirable
- Strong interpersonal and munication skills to effectively liaise between students and staff
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary education team
