Summary

Under the direction of the Board of Directors for Hope’s Closet (a non-profit 501C organization), reporting directly to the Board President, the Operations and New Volunteer Program Manager is responsible for the administration of a well managed and growth oriented new volunteer program as well as operational tasks for the Bundles of Hope. The manager will create best practices for the new volunteers and build a welcoming, thriving and respectful space for community members to donate their efforts and time. Integral to the success of this organization is the continued growth of the Hope’s Closet volunteer numbers and hours which will require dedicated time to connect with outside community organizations within the Santa Cruz, Watsonville and Salinas areas. A team player, they will work closely with the store and donation managers to ensure all areas of the organization are working in tandem towards the same goals and on any given day assisting in areas that are in need.

Position is 25 hours/week ( Monday- Friday)

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Manage and grow the new volunteer program and Outreach Operations:

  • Responsible for all communication with potential new volunteers and organizations, including scheduling visits and hands on training.

  • Create an onboarding program for all new volunteers - work with current volunteers and board to develop a hands on training process for new volunteers, keeping in alignment with internal best practices.

  • Continuous recruitment efforts for the volunteer corp that will include responding to emails, outreach visits to other local organizations, possible speaking opportunities, and maximizing social media to attract attention and growth.

Operations Manager for Bundles of Hope:

  • Responsible for inventory control, supply ordering, purchasing and corresponding space needs..

  • This position is a partner with the store and donation manager and as a team, work closely together to ensure that the entire workspace environment is safe, respectful and unified in its effort to provide for those in need first and foremost. This may include the management of accepted donations and the disposal of those items that are not needed.

  • Day to day management of the Bundles of Hope space, working with volunteer input to create a clean and organized work space.

  • As one of three managers for Hopes Closet will be trained as a backup in all three roles in the event additional temporary support may be needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Organization’s Mission & Board Governance:

  • Works with the board to fulfill the organization’s mission.

  • Communicates effectively with the Board and provides, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

  • Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement and approval in policy decisions, fundraising opportunities and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.Works with the Board of Directors and staff members to ensure that the mission of Hope's Closet is fulfilled through programing, strategic planning and community outreach.

  • Serves as Hope's Closet primary spokesperson for its volunteer program (in partnership with the Board President) to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the public.

  • Enhances Hope's Closet marketing image through visibility in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations as part of the outreach director position.

Required Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher is required.

  • 3 years minimum of official non- profit employment and/or management positions in operations, education, community centered organizations.

  • Demonstrated leadership with employees, volunteers, board members, stakeholders or community members

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Able to convey the vision and strategic future to staff & volunteers, board, donors, and community.

  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers in a team effort to reach organizational goals

  • Transparent and high integrity leadership.

  • Proficient with Google Workspace

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual/Biliterate (Spanish and English) is desired.

  • Non profit management experience

  • Strong public speaker.

  • Purchasing and Inventory Control

Hopes has a thriving donation center, a resale discount children's store and our bundles program all under one roof. We provide over 200 bundles a month and its entirely volunteer driven. The last arm of the organization is the Board which oversees the operations as well as fund raises. We also provide clothing for outlying areas in Watsonville and Salinas.
