Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager for Mechanical Construction to lead delivery of commercial mechanical projects from preconstruction through closeout. The role is responsible for ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget and to quality standards. The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, sheet metal, piping, plumbing) with strong construction management, client-facing skills, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors in commercial construction environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead full project lifecycle for mechanical construction projects including planning, preconstruction, procurement, construction, commissioning and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets and forecasts; identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to achieve project objectives.
  • Manage and coordinate mechanical trades including HVAC, sheet metal, piping and plumbing installers and subcontractors to ensure integration and on-site performance.
  • Prepare and review project estimates, change order requests, cost reports, and payment applications; control project cost and cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements, building codes, manufacturer specifications and industry standards (e.g., SMACNA, ASHRAE, local plumbing codes).
  • Oversee quality control and testing procedures, coordinate commissioning activities and resolve technical issues to meet performance criteria.
  • Serve as primary client and owner representative on site; maintain strong stakeholder relationships and clear communication with architects, engineers and owners.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to project teams, conduct regular site meetings, progress reporting and performance reviews.
  • Manage subcontractor selection, contracts, and performance; oversee procurement of materials and equipment to meet schedule and budget targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement by applying construction best practices, lessons learned, and productivity initiatives to optimize project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 710 years of hands-on mechanical construction project management experience on commercial projects, with demonstrated expertise in HVAC, sheet metal, piping and plumbing systems.
  • Proven track record managing projects through all phases, delivering on schedule and within budget; experience with projects in the $1M - $50M range preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design, installation methods, testing and commissioning practices, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Proficiency with project management and scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and construction document control systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and client management skills; ability to lead diverse teams and build effective subcontractor relationships.
  • Experience with estimating, change management, and cost control processes.
  • Commitment to safety with working knowledge of OSHA regulations and site safety programs; relevant safety certifications a plus (e.g., OSHA 30).
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is preferred; LEED or commissioning credentials are a plus.
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
