Location - Syracuse, NYPosition Summary

The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive obstetric care to patients during labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, and newborn transition. This role requires flexibility to float between Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Nursery units and strong clinical expertise in obstetric nursing within an acute care hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients and newborns

  • Monitor maternal and fetal status, including fetal heart rate interpretation

  • Assist with and circulate during cesarean sections

  • Scrub for cesarean sections (preferred)

  • Support vaginal and operative deliveries in collaboration with physicians and midwives

  • Provide immediate postpartum and newborn care

  • Float between Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Nursery units as needed

  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans

  • Administer medications and IV therapies per provider orders

  • Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care

  • Accurately document all care in the electronic medical record

  • Respond effectively to obstetric emergencies and participate in rapid response situations

  • Maintain compliance with patient safety, infection control, and regulatory standards

Required Qualifications

  • Active New York State RN license

  • BLS certification (must be current or able to recertify)

  • Minimum of 1.5 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience (within the past 2 years) in an acute care hospital of similar size and acuity

  • Demonstrated experience circulating cesarean sections (required)

  • Ability to work independently with minimal orientation and supervision

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience scrubbing cesarean sections

  • Experience floating between L&D, Postpartum, and Nursery units

  • EPIC Electronic Medical Records experience

  • Experience in large hospitals or trauma centers

Traveler Eligibility Requirements

  • Travelers must have prior experience in hospitals of equal or greater size and acuity

  • No history of professional license or certification suspension or investigation

  • No history of professional liability claims

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Verification of legal right to work in the United States

  • Successful completion of pre-employment health clearance

  • Drug screening and criminal background check

Professional Competencies

  • Strong clinical judgment and assessment skills

  • Ability to manage acute obstetric situations

  • Effective communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
