Your Role: Middle School History Teacher
As a Middle School History Teacher, you will be part of a dynamic team that empowers students to become self-guided learners. You will develop subject mastery while navigating the socio-emotional changes that middle school students experience. Your history classes will not only educate but also inspire students to find their voices and become global citizens through:
- Engaging Instruction: Facilitate student-led discussions, encouraging debate and critical thinking.
- Data-Driven Analysis: Collaborate with your principal and instructional coach to enhance student learning through data insights.
- Positive School Culture: Build meaningful relationships with students and families, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Instruction
- Facilitate engaging discussions on historical topics, guiding students through open-ended questions and peer debates.
- Teach an in-house curriculum that highlights diverse histories, including those of Indigenous peoples, African Americans, and women.
- Create an inclusive environment where students feel empowered to express their evidence-based opinions.
2. Data Analysis
- Meet weekly to analyze student work and assessments, adapting instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners.
3. School Culture
- Build positive relationships with students, ensuring they feel seen and heard.
- Engage in professional development and mentorship to continuously improve your teaching practice.
- Collaborate with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.
Qualifications
- A commitment to supporting students’ social-emotional and academic development.
- A passion for collaboration with internal and external partners for the benefit of students.
- A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback.
- Required Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools preferred.
- Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, or related fields.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required. Teacher certification is not a prerequisite, but candidates must meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements.

Compensation
The salary for this role ranges from $56,000 to $80,000, based on factors such as relevant teaching experience and educational qualifications. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $56,000.
