Airport Veterinary Clinic is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile, skilled assistant who enjoys variety in their day and wants to fully utilize a well-rounded clinical skillset across surgical and outpatient care in a mixed animal practice. We are seeking dependable, motivated candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment, multitask efficiently, anticipate team needs, and take pride in delivering exceptional support throughout every stage of the patient visit.

Exotic animal handling experience is required (especially snakes, avian, and other exotic species).

In this position, you will play a key role in both outpatient and procedural workflows, contributing to a consistent, high standard of care throughout the patient visit.

Responsibilities include:

  • Rotating between exam room, outpatient, and surgical caseload support
  • Performing anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Assisting in surgery, including patient prep, setup, and recovery
  • Performing radiology, phlebotomy, SQ injections, and laboratory sample collection
  • Providing safe, gentle patient handling and restraint for companion and exotic species
  • Monitoring inpatient care and supporting hospitalized patients as needed
  • Maintaining accurate, detailed medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Building strong client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service

Schedule and compensation:

  • Compensation: $16.00 – $20.00 per hour, for each hour worked
  • This is a full-time position, offering either a 5 x 8 or 4 x 10 schedule, Monday–Friday, with rotating Saturday coverage 8:00–11:00 AM every third Saturday.
  • On-call responsibilities rotate every 6th week if / when a hospitalized patient requires weekend monitoring.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

  • 2+ years of veterinary assistant experience is required
  • Registered Veterinary Technicians are encouraged to also apply
  • Exotic animal handling experience required
    • Snakes and Birds especially
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Client education and communication
    • Patient assessment, nursing care, and monitoring
    • Anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery
    • Surgical assisting and aseptic technique
    • Venipuncture and IV catheter placement
    • Medication administration and accurate drug calculations
    • Safe, low-stress patient handling and restraint for dogs, cats, and exotics
