Leigh Orthopedic Surgery Center is excited to offer an excellent opportunity for an experienced Sterile Processing Lead Technician to play a key role in our state-of-the-art facility. This position will be instrumental in helping establish and lead a successful ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area.
Summary: The Sterile Processing Lead works to lead the maintenance of the cleanliness, functionality, and inventory of the instruments, equipment, and re-usable medical supplies according to nationally recognized standards, regulations, and center policies to ensure safe, quality patient care.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the decontamination, cleaning, prepping, and sterilization of surgical instruments, re-usable supplies, and equipment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization equipment and its use in the decontamination / sterile processing area.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the SPD department duties including:
- Understanding the use and handling of chemicals used in the SP area
- Commitment to following the recommended instructions for decontaminating, cleaning, sonification, drying, flushing, sterilizing, etc. items in the SP area
- Use of appropriate biological and chemical monitoring with documentation of such
- Monitor and routinely report SPD key performance indicators and objectives to ensure continuous improvement and timely completion of tasks / projects

- Demonstrates a commitment to follow "Instructions For Use" (IFU) information from manufacturers' related to all items that flow through the SP area.
- Monitor and analyze the surgical schedule to anticipate instrumentation, equipment, re-usable medical supply needs.
- Prioritize processing of instrumentation according to surgical schedule, ensuring communication of these priorities to the team
- Communicates any identified departmental opportunities and/or issues to OR lead and Clinical Director
- Assists with setting and communicating work schedules for SPD team
- Remove defective items from service and replace missing items, and alert other parties in a timely manner when items are missing.
- Maintains appropriate tray lists and inventory stock
- Maintains accurate, detailed, documentation.
- Pursues additional knowledge and training to remain current on standards and regulations relating to the sterile processing area.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
- Follows the center exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a center team to facilitate the center's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED)
- One-Year certificate from college or technical school; or 3+ years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certified Sterile Processing Technician
- CPR certification required
- ASC experience preferred
No "call", no weekends or holidays. This is a Full-time position with competitive salary and benefits (health, dental, vision, disability, life insurances and 401k). Relocation assistance is not available.
