National Cathedral School seeks an innovative and collaborative Lower School art teacher who believes in the power of young women and is dedicated to nurturing their curiosity and potential. This full-time position will teach all Lower School art classes (grades 4, 5, and 6), which explore a wide variety of art topics, tools, and materials. Working creatively in the art department and integrating art with the Lower School team and curriculum is highly desired.
The ideal candidate:
- Demonstrates pedagogical skill with the ability to differentiate to meet the needs of a variety of learners.
- Exhibits content-specific knowledge in a variety of art-making techniques, art history, critical making, and aesthetics.
- Uses a variety of approaches to deliver instruction and ensure student mastery.
- Enjoys being an active member of the school community that extends beyond the classroom.
- Has relevant teaching experience or a degree in art education or studio art.
- Displays strong classroom management skills.
- Understands and appreciates working with students of this age by providing a safe, nurturing environment in which students can thrive.
- Possesses at least a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching a full-time load of 10 sections.
- Participating and collaborating within the full department to ensure excellent scope and sequence.
- Working collaboratively with LS colleagues to create interdisciplinary art projects to enhance the student experience.
- Communicating with colleagues, students and parents on a regular basis.
Teachers are on campus from 7:45am to approximately 4pm. Additional responsibilities include participating in department, division and faculty meetings, holding regular office hours, as well as attending chapel, cathedral services, and assemblies. LS Faculty participate in the life of the school by supervising lunch, recess, and dismissal duty on a rotating basis.
Salary and Benefits:
The full time salary for this position is $65,000-$140,000. The exact salary is determined based on education and teaching experience using a step scale. Benefits available include medical, dental, life insurance, a retirement plan with a school contribution, free parking or transit benefits, and lunch without charge, as well as support for professional development experiences. Additional stipends are available for coaching middle or upper school sports.
