Position Overview: Vulcan Metals is seeking a Supply Quality Engineer (SQE) to support our Steel Casting operations serving the Oil & Gas and DoD Navy markets. The SQE is responsible for managing the technical aspects of our supply base to ensure compliance with quality, capacity, and performance expectations. This role partners closely with suppliers and internal teams to develop, monitor, and improve supplier processes, materials, and performance metrics.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key suppliers to ensure alignment with Vulcan Metals’ quality and delivery standards.
- Evaluate supplier quality systems, manufacturing processes, and product conformance through on-site audits and performance reviews.
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve quality issues, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and lead corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes related to supplier nonconformances.
- Monitor supplier performance data and trends; report KPIs and drive initiatives for improvement in quality and delivery.
- Support supplier qualification and onboarding through initial assessments, PPAPs, and process validations.
- Work cross-functionally with Procurement, Engineering, and Operations to align technical requirements and delivery schedules.
- Travel regularly to supplier locations in the Pacific Northwest to perform inspections, audits, and reviews.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a supplier quality, manufacturing, or process engineering role, preferably within metals, castings, or fabrication.
Experience:
- Knowledge of quality systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, MIL-STD, or API).
- Experience with root cause analysis, problem-solving tools, and quality audits.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with quality reporting tools.
- Experience with castings, welding, NDT, or machining suppliers preferred.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Auditor (CQA) preferred.
- Familiarity with DoD or Navy quality systems and requirements preferred.
Salary Range: $80,907.00 - $101,134.00
Location: Tacoma, Washington
On-site Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
