Job Title: Athletic Performance Coach (APC)

Organization: Athlos Academy

Location: Jefferson Parish

Reports To: Principal / Assistant Principal

Hiring Status: At-Will

FLSA Status: Exempt

FTE: 1.0

Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm

Reporting Days: 190, 10 months

Compensation: Salary

Evaluation Rubric: COMPASS Evaluation

Starting Pay: $39,800-$75,361, DOE;

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education:  Bachelor's degree or enrollment in an approved teaching program

Experience:  Classroom experience preferred

Certification:  Valid local state teaching certificate in assigned content area or enrollment in an alternate certification program

Background: Clear FBI background check

Language: Strong verbal and writing skills in English, Spanish fluency preferred

Job Duties

Classroom Instruction

  • Follow State-specified Effective Teaching Standards
  • Creates a classroom environment that cultivates learning, engages the interests of the students, and allows them to perform at their very best. 
  • Utilizes academically rigorous lessons, unit plans, rubrics and assessments aligned to Athlos’ 3 foundational pillars of a Prepared Mind, Healthy Body, and Performance Character. 
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers instruction that engages students and ensures student growth and achievement in accordance with grade level standards. 
  • Uses data to inform instructional decisions including summative and interim assessments and daily formative assessments.
  • Differentiates instruction based on individual needs, learning style, and abilities. 
  • Implement the Athlos Athletic curriculum, focused on the development of physically literate students.
  • Appropriately differentiate activities to account for student’s physical capabilities.
  • Teach physical education in alignment with state standards.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instruction that engages students and provides academic growth.
  • Ensure student growth and achievement in accordance with grade level.
  • Responsible for tracking student attendance, behavioral issues and classroom events.
  • Participate in regular professional development.
  • Participate in the school's professional learning community to enhance learning objectives.
  • Meet professional obligations by honoring schedules and deadlines.
  • Cover assigned before and after school duties as requested
  • Data collection for progress monitoring
  • Support school initiatives.
  • Improve instruction and learning with increased accountability for results.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluate student academic growth and proficiency through the use of formative and summative assessments, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website and other means to discuss the student’s progress.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, academic, social and emotional challenges.
  • Integrate technology to support student learning.
  • Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus.

  • Create and maintain a safe environment in the classroom.

Communication

  • Communicates professionally with parent/guardians and the community. 
  • Communicates student progress with parent/guardians regularly.
  • Communicates regularly with school leadership and other faculty to maximize effective instructional activities. 

Professionalism

  • Models the Athlos culture. 

  • Implements school policies.

  • Tracks student attendance, behavioral issues, and classroom events. 

  • Participates in regular school-wide and individual professional development including professional learning communities. 

  • Pursues ambitious professional development goals and student learning targets.

  • Actively participates in critical school events, including staff meetings, open houses, parent teacher conferences and more. 

  • Gives and receives positive and constructive feedback from colleagues. 

  • Honors schedules and deadlines.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Classroom and video platforms such as: Zoom or Teams.
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to engage the entire classroom.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience working in diverse communities and a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives.
  • Demonstrated integrity and high standards in managing information in a confidential and professional manner.
