Subject Matter Expert-level Marine Electrical Engineer will support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Washington, DC. An ideal candidate will have extensive prior experience with one of the following specialized Marine Electrical fields: electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems, as well as familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.
Provide leadership and coordinate review efforts for verification and validation work related work efforts in the Electrical Engineering discipline.
Review design review comments submitted by junior engineers and advise decisionmakers on considerations for high impact and critical design review decisions.
Coordinate and lead review and adjudication of system design specifications, test requirements, Departures from Specification (DFS’s), Request for Waiver (RFW), Engineering Changes (EC’s).
Lead effort to evaluate new or modified electronics on overall system performance.
Provide mentorship to junior electrical engineers.
Education/Certification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
At least fifteen (15) years of recent, relevant professional experience working in one of the following marine fields: electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems.
At least one (1) year of experience related to U.S. Federal ship or boat building acquisition programs.
Extensive knowledge of U.S. Navy Power Distribution Architecture.
Extensive knowledge of USN, USCG, ABS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
Proficient with common productivity software.
Strong communications skills.
